Obituary for Abraham Lippitt, Jr.

Then Jonathan said to David, “Tomorrow is the new moon: and thou shalt be missed, because thy seat will be empty.” 1 Samuel 20:18

Deacon Abraham Lippitt Jr., affectionately known as “AB” or “Abe” the youngest in his family, was born on March 21, 1944 in Baker County, Newton, GA to Abraham and Annie Butler Lippitt who preceded him in death.

He received Christ as his personal savior at an early age and joined Springfield Missionary Baptist Church under Reverend Donahue being baptized at the pool in front of the church.

Later, in 1956, the family moved to Bainbridge GA. He attended schools in Decatur County.

He traveled throughout many states in various types of employment. Ending back up at home again he was employed by International Paper Company as a research aide for many years.

He met and married the love of his life, Sondra Washington Lippitt; they enjoyed 37 years of happiness together.

He taught Sunday school for 29 years imparting the word of God to the young people of the area. He loved to sing and pray and loved to lead Devotional service and prayer meeting.

He was always ready and willing to serve wherever he was needed. Present with him was always an unyielding spirit of the Christian faith toward helping others in the community and the world.

His favorite song was, “Oh Hallelujah, blessed savior, I’m going to see my friends again Hallelujah!”

He has been connected with several other churches. One of the highlights of his life was to take part in the building of a church. He was dedicated to the building of the new Antioch M.B. Church - Brinson, GA. From the inception of the new church, the first shovel in the ground all the way to the new Walk-in from the old church to the Dedication of the New church.

For several years he developed his skill in horticulture and he created his own nursery. Plant cultivation was his expertise. Several churches, community members and family friends have plants in their yards that he rooted and that came from his nursery.

His love for his family was his greatest source of joy. He was a "people person" and loved to talk. Nobody was a stranger. He always invited everyone to go to Rio de Janeiro with him. One of his favorite pastimes was watching football, especially the Dallas Cowboys. He also liked to preserve pears and share them with family and friends.

He went home to be with the Lord on February 22, 2023 with his devoted wife Sondra and others at his bedside.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife: Sondra; three sisters: Rosa Mae Lippitt Burke, Bainbridge GA; Adel Lippitt Close, Newark, NY; Dosha Archie (Ernest), Lakeland, FL; brother: Johnny Lippitt, Tampa FL; two sisters-in-law: Vivian Washington Means, Atlanta GA and Doris Washington Harbour, Atlanta GA; two brothers-in-law: Frederick Washington (Fann), Columbus GA and Larry L. Edwards, Bainbridge, GA; Several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, devoted cousins and a host of sorrowing friends.

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith..."

2 Timothy 4:7-8
