Obituary for AirFonzie Peterson
Reflection of Life
Airfonzie Peterson Sr, was born on January 18, 1939 in Eldorendo, GA to the late Felix and Ruth Peterson Airfonzie was the 4th child of 7 children. He was the last surviving member of all his siblings.
He attended the Decatur County School System. Airfonzie met Geraldine Staten and they were married. From this union, three children were born. Airfonzie received Christ as his personal savior in 1962. He was a member of Morris Temple Community First Born church, where he served as chairman deacon.
He served as the District Deacon for the Bainbridge District and later served as Diocese Deacon for the Mighty Mid- South Diocese until his death. Deacon Peterson was dedicated to the church in all ways possible. He would be the first one at the church and the last one to leave. He made sure the church functioned each time the doors opened. Many people learned from him and went on to become great leaders themselves all because of Deacon Peterson. He was a foreman at Southern Concrete in Bainbridge, GA for nearly 40 years until his retirement in 1999. He was a husband for 61 years, a father who put his 3 children through college, a provider and protector for his family, and a very strong man that kept the faith in the mist of the storm, until he took his final rest.
Airfonzie Peterson leaves to cherish his memory: His devoted and loving wife, Geraldine Peterson; three children, LaVerne Peterson, Shelia Rena Jones (Rosby), and Airfonzie Peterson Jr. (Shirley); 3 grandchildren, Airfonzie Peterson III, Chariot Tashianna Peterson, and Ja’dehn Williams.
He also leaves to cherish his memory, 4 sisters-in-law; Jerealine Holmes, Essie Mae Ross, Peggy Smith (Smitty) and Ruby Douglas Peterson; 2 brothers-in-law; Ira Staten (Josie), Reverend Elize Staten, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and Grand-god children.
Arifonzie was preceded in death by his brothers, Nathaniel Peterson and James Peterson; sisters, Betha Mae Jones (Ulysses), Lillie Mae Peterson, Rosie Fountain (Willie), Sarah Harvey (Arthur); Brother-in-law, Terry Ross and sisters-in-law, Cora Staten and Katie Peterson.
