Obituary for Alena H. Sutton
Alena was born in Iron City, Georgia on March 5, 1928 to the late Charlie and Henritta Williams Howard. Alena had 9 siblings who preceded her in death: Ethel Mae, Charlie Mae, Gertrude, General Lee, Miles, Isaac, Johnny Gordon, Brady Mae, and Tommy.
Alena attended the Seminole County Public School System. She moved to Bainbridge, Georgia and joined St. Paul MB Church under the leadership of Pastor Blake.
At an early age Alena met and married Chester Brinson, and later she married Walter Lee Sutton. She was preceded in death by both, as well as children Elmarie Brinson, Willie Brinson, and Bruce Washington.
She was a very hard worker in the fields gathering crops, cooking, and cleaning in the home. Alena worked at Bainbridge Hospital in the early 1950s. Later she worked at Bainbridge Motel, and in between she did domestic work. Her job of compassion was childcare, which she did for over 60 years. The number of children she kept was countless.
Alena was the proud mother of: Joseph Allen, Sr. of Sunrise, Florida; Gertrude (Charlie) Thompson of Lithonia, Georgia; Thomas “Eddie” (Alesia) Brinson, Sr. of Bainbridge, Georgia; and Sharon Sutton of Macon Georgia. A stepson, Elijah (Ruby) Sutton of Chattahoochee, Florida; and a great nephew she helped to raise, Charlie J. (Angie) Howard of Macon, Georgia.
Her legacy continues with 10 grandchildren: Kristina Brinson; Faye (Eugene) Bryant; Kia Allen; Brian (Nakia) Thompson; Thomas Edward (Dionne) Brinson, Jr.; Tawanna Washington; Valorie Brinson; Chris (Nikki) Thompson; Krystal Brinson; and Joseph Allen, Jr. Alena had 7 great-grandchildren: Madison Washington; Maurice “BJ” Thompson; Kamani Allen; Blake Thompson; Brooke Thompson; Justice Allen; and Journey Allen.
She was blessed with a precious sister-in-law, Ethel Mae “Mamie” Howard, and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends.
