Obituary for Alice J. Brooks
Sister Alice Jewel Brooks parted this earth on June 4, 2015 with her family by her side in Bainbridge, Georgia. Sister Alice was born July 30, 1949 to the late Alice Clara Brooks Pettway and the late Johnnie Lewis. She attended and graduated valedictorian of her class at Robert L. Austin High School in Georgiana AL in 1967. Moving to Rochester, NY shortly after graduating Alice gained employment with General Motors Company. Alice was a dedicated hard worker, who enjoyed life and loved what she did. She gave General Motors 32 years of dedicated service before retiring. She joined St. Paul Holiness Church. She met and married the late Eugene Lewis and into this union two children born. Continuing on with her life she gave birth to a son and later on welcomed into her family a daughter Sammantha Cruz. She was preceded in death by her parents Alice Clara Brooks Pettway and Johnnie Lewis, her brother Jimmie Lewis, her sister Catherine Lawanda Lewis Patton, her granddaughter Jere'Miah A'Miracle Baker, a special Aunt Clara B. Crittenden, a special Uncle Benjamin Brooks. Leaving to cherish her loving memories children: Stephanie Lewis, Rochester, NY; Cynthia Lewis, Sammantha Cruz of Bainbridge, GA; Bishop (Courtney) Jordan III of Florence, SC; Brenda (George) Maxey, Vanessa (Peter) Wright of Rochester, NY; Nine (9) grandchildren: Chanaya and Nakayia Blanding, Jose Castro, Ian Goolsby Jr., Christopher, Christian, Princess and Chrissa Rush. A special friend and companion: Moses Williams, a special sister/mother: Bessie Chandler; a best friend of many years Brenda Briggs; a special God daughter, Gloria McFadden, her stepfather: Jimmie Lee Pettway of Georgiana, AL; Three siblings: Laura Mae Johnson of Georgiana, AL; Rickey (Vickkie) Pettway of Killeen, TX; Dennis (Sun) Pettway of Daleville, AL; her Stepmother: Cassie Lewis of Greenville, AL; Juliette (Azzaam) Sami and Daaimah Madyum of Detroit, MI; Sahdee Lewis of Greenville, AL; and a host of friends and family in Rochester, NY, Daleville, AL, Georgiana, AL, Detroit MI, W. Bloomfield, MI, Oak Park MI, and Westchester PA.
