Obituary for Annie Bell Johnson
The Obituary
A courageous and unselfish life was ended on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, when Mother Annie Bell Addison-Johnson, departed this life to eternal rest at Bainbridge Memorial Hospital, Bainbridge, Georgia. Annie Bell was born March 4, 1921 in Whigham, Georgia as youngest child of the late Yank Addison, Sr. and Essie Mae Parson Addison. Due to the death of Annie Bell’s Mother, she was reared by her paternal grandmother Affie Addison.
At the age of 19, Annie Bell confessed Christ and joined the Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Whigham. She served as Church Mother and her husband served as a Deacon.
Annie Bell was always a hard worker. She and her husband worked as sharecroppers in tobacco as well as okra. They taught many of their nieces and nephews work ethics. Annie Bell worked in several homes in Grady County where she prepared meals and assisted with the rearing of many children. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Johnny Johnson.
Annie Bell enjoyed raising her only son, Ervin and was most proud when he moved from Miami to Tallahassee to be closer to her. Often on weekends, you could find Ervin spending the weekend with his mother and sharing meals that she enjoyed preparing. Vanessa and Barney will hold memories dear of times spent on their summer vacations with their grandparents and family in Georgia.
She leaves a legacy of love and sweet memories to a loving and devoted son, Ervin Johnson; a devoted daughter-in-law, Catherine Florence, both of Tallahassee, FL; Three Grandchildren: Vanessa Johnson, Miami, FL; Barney Johnson (Bonita Boykins), Tallahassee, FL; and Jerome Crooms, Apalachicola, FL; Great-Grandchildren: Katonya Johnson, Ervin Johnson, Cyrus Boykins, Jamal Collins and 6 others; Great-Great Grandchildren: Briel Napier, Lil Jamal Collins, Osiris Boykins, Encoh Boykins, Ariel Akins and two others. One brother: Joe Addison, Whigham; Two sisters: Helen Hayes, Whigham, and Elizabeth Smith, Miami, FL; One Sister-in-law: Mamie Lou Addison; Special Niece and Caregiver: Tinease Addison Strong and Bonita Boykins; many nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, her step-mother Lonnie Mae Smart-Addison, her sister Mattie Addison-Smith, her brothers, George, Dennis, Yank, Jr., Charlie, David and Bobby Addison, all preceded her in death.
