Annie Ruth Wilson was born on October 27, 1944, in Gadsden County, Florida, one of eleven children born to Charles Jones and Annie Lee Peterson. She attended Brick Branch School and later made her home in Decatur County, Georgia, where she spent most of her adult life. On December 14, 2025, Annie peacefully transitioned at the age of 81.
Annie’s life was deeply rooted in love, family, and faith. She loved her people fiercely and took great pride in the family God blessed her with. Watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow brought her genuine joy. She carried her roles as mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt with a steady hand and a caring heart, always looking out for those she loved.
Straightforward and strong-willed, Annie was known for speaking her mind and standing firm in who she was. You always knew where you stood with her, and her strength and honesty left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Annie is lovingly survived by her sons, Willie Lurry II (Melissa Lurry) and Shawn Wilson (Adelle Wilson), and her daughter, Courtney Wilson, who will forever cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her siblings Louise Carlow, Annie Lee Fraser, Charlie Jones, Juanita Williams, Clarence Jones, Hebert Jones, James Jones, and Gertrude Jones. She also leaves behind her beloved siblings, Ruby Dale Wilks and Tommy Peterson, who hold her memory close and find comfort in God’s promises.
Her love lives on through her precious grandchildren, Willie III, Sheena, Shawndell, Sterling, Victorica, and Alexis, along with many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Each one was a blessing she held dear.
Annie trusted in the Lord and found peace in serving Him. Her faith carried her through every season of life, and the warm fellowship of St. Calvary M.B. Church held a special place in her heart. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is now at rest.
Annie’s life reminds us to love our family, hold tightly to our faith, and stand strong in who we are. Her spirit lives on in the stories we share, the lessons she taught, and the love she poured into her family.
“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”
2 Corinthians 5:8
