Obituary for Arrie L. Fortner "Bay"
Arrie Louise Fortner aka "Bay", 67 passed away on August 11th, 2014 at home among her family in Cairo, GA. She was born on December 5th, 1946 in Baker County, GA to the late Lucious and Della Mae (Singletary) McGriff. Arrie Louise grew up and attended public school in Baker County, GA. She chose to assist her family at home, joining the workforce at an early age. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age serving at Union Baptist faithfully until her day of rest. A nurturing wife, mother, and sister, she involved herself in the up-building of her fellow brethren, treating all whom grew to know her as her adopted family. Arrie enjoyed talking and traveling with friends locally as well as in Wisconsin, New York and New Jersey. She began working for Amoco Fabrics as a Machine Operator, where she worked for 27 years, Ivey Family Housekeeper/Nanny, the City of Bainbridge Public Works, and a Taper Operator at ITT. She retired in 2008 after 28 years. Arrie Louise married Woodrow Fortner, Jr. in 1992 in Cairo, Georgia. They were happily married for 22 years. Arrie Louise was an active member and Deaconess at Union Missionary Baptist Church. She joyfully served as President of the UMB Kitchen Committee for over 20 years. With hosting and cooking as her mission, she spent time cooking within many neighboring county church kitchens, such as Mt. Ararat Primitive Baptist and New Corinth MB Church and others. . She devoted her time to the Julia Mae Smiley Auxiliary, Union Missionary Pastor Aid, Arbor Day, &Amnesty International and the Layman Council of South Georgia. She enjoyed all the blessings of socializing with family and friends, talking about her Lord and Savior, cooking for anyone who needed a meal or a word of encouragement, gardening, and traveling. She is known by many for her charitable causes within her church, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren until she slept peacefully away. Arrie Louise was preceded in death by her late parents Lucious and Della Mae McGriff, brothers Howard McGriff, and William Anderson. She leaves to cherish her memories: a loving and devoted husband, Woodrow Fortner, Jr. of Calvary, GA; her children: Sharon Wilkerson- McGriff (Tyrone) of Tallahassee, FL, Gregory (Patricia) McGriff ofThomasville, GA, Pamela Beauchamp-Hall (Jesse) of Whigham, GA, Michael (Delanna) Adams of Calvary, GA; five brother: Myles, Clyde, Charles (Marion), Gerome (Brenda) and Patrick (Juanita); five sisters: Delphine Screen,, Lessie Mae Moore, Lorene Freeman, Stephanie Timberlake-Rogers (Rickie) and Gloria West; thirteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.
