Life And Legacy
Mr. Augustus Hawkins Jr. was born April 21, 1942, in Bainbridge, Ga. to the late Deacon Augustus (Pet) Hawkins, Gethsemlia Baulkman Hawkins, and Dollie Burke Hawkins. He emerged from this earthly life January 16th, 2024, at the Charlie Norwood Veteran Hospital in Augusta GA.
He received Christ at an early age and joined the First African Baptist Church in Bainbridge, Ga. He was known for his great speaking ability at Union Baptist Church. He also received his educational training in the Decatur County school system. He graduated from Hutto High School in 1961. He joined the United States Army in 1964, and served as a Production Coordinator, and was honorable discharged as a Sergeant.
He proceeded to further his education at a college in Rochester, NY. in Finance. He was employed at Bausch & Lomb in Rochester, NY where he later retired in 1993. Junior, as he was called by his family, loved to cook and was a great chef. Some of his hobbies included; singing, coaching a baseball team, playing baseball, watching baseball, especially when one of his favorite teams was playing, which was the Atlanta Braves. Junior was always looking for a great football game to watch, but loved to watch his favorite team play and that was none other than the Buffalo Bills. He loved his family and friends and would have done anything for them!
Augustus Hawkins Jr. was affectionately known as (Hawk) by most of his neighbors and friends and (Junior & June Bug) by his family is and will be greatly missed.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, Augustus (Pet) Hawkins, Gethsemlia Baulkman Hawkins, and Dollie Burke Hawkins; Two brothers: James, and Marcellus Hawkins; Two sisters: Agnes Cull and Addie Dean Perkins; Two sons: Cedric, and Leonard Hawkins.
Augustus Hawkins (Hawk) Jr. leaves to cherish his many memories one sister: Bessie M. Smith of Washington, DC; Devoted daughter: Thirsteen Hawkins (James) Bing of Augusta, GA; Monroe (Renita) Jones of Bainbridge, GA; Crystal Hawkins (James) Mistretta of Rochester, NY; Wife: Mary Britton Hawkins of Georgetown, SC; Daughter in law: Angela Hawkins, of Georgetown, SC; Twelve grandchildren: eight great-grandchildren; A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, family, and friends. Special friends: Mr. James Perkins, Mr. Eugene Porter, and Mrs. Mary Cooper, all of Bainbridge, GA; Junior, (Hawk) is already missed!
