Obituary for Billy Joe Close
11:50 a.m. Sunday, October 20, 2024, Billy Joe Close was called home to
be with the Lord.
Billy was born in Decatur County on February 24, 1960. He was the
sixth child to be born to the late Rudolph (Bill) and Lillie Mae Close.
One son, Brandon Close, and three, Richard, Randolph, and Rufus
Close, preceded him in death. He attended Decatur County schools
where he graduated in 1978 from BHS. He also attended Bainbridge
College. He joined the Mt. Zuma MB Church at an early age under
the pastorship of Rev. E. E. Mitchell, Sr. He served as President of the
Sr. Usher Board.
Billy worked at Bainbridge Country Club, The Post Searchlight,
Professional Cleaning, and Georgia Power Company before going to
the family of Mitchell County EMC where he worked faithfully
until his health failed.
Billy was known for his talent of playing lead guitar and singing the
gospel. He started his musical interest playing in a group called "The
Son's of Faith," where he stood proudly with his father and brothers.
He also played for the Heavenly Wonders and The Amazing Harmony
Four (Jobe Close).
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving daughter, Amberly Close
Grayson, GA, a very devoted sister Mary Ann Close, Bainbridge, GA,
one brother Samuel (Doris) Close, Meridian, MS, four grandchildren,
Adreona, Comora, Leighanna, and Sienna. Seven nephews, two of whom
were very devoted: Brian and Byron Close, Bainbridge, GA. Two nieces,
one who stood in the gap, Katrina (Brad) Pelham, GA, Kimberdy
Anderson (Leonard), South Carolina. Two sister-in-laws, Doris Close,
Meridian, MS, and Marvel Close, Bainbridge, GA, and a host of family
and friends
