A TIME TO BE BORN: Carrie Mae Campbell Walden, the fifth child of Jim and Sadie Reese Campbell was born September 29, 1919 in Bainbridge, Georgia. Much of her youth was spent in Cairo, Georgia with the James and Dora McClendon family and the Ernest and Sarah Cloud family.



A TIME TO PLANT: She prepared herself for life of service by attending Elementary and High School in Decatur and Grady counties. She matriculated at Savannah State College (now Savannah State University) and received the Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.



A TIME TO LOVE: Carrie married the love of her life, Harvey B Walden, and they were blessed with one beloved son, William Takashi Walden.



A TIME TO SERVE: Being reared in a loving Christian home, Carrie accepted Christ as her personal Savior in her youth and joined Nelson Chapel AME Church. She served on the Stewardess and Trustee Boards, and sang in the Celestial Chorus and the Senior Choir. In 2015 she was awarded a certificate of Appreciation for outstanding commitment to her church. She remained a faithful servant until her health began to fail. Mrs. Walden served the youth of Decatur County as one elementary school teacher and substitute teacher. She worked at many of the schools, including Hutto, John Johnson and West Bainbridge. In later years she assisted Mrs. Eunice Adams in the Nelson Chapel Day Care Program.



A TIME TO CELEBBRATE: She held membership in civil, professional and social organizational. She was a charter member of the Elite Pearls, The Social club founded by her sister, Gwendolyn. She holds membership in the Oak City Chapter #253 Order of Easter Star, she was an emeritus member of the Bainbridge-Decatur County Retired Educators Association; a member of the Savannah State University Alumni Association; and a life member of her beloved Lambda Xi Omega Chapel of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Carrie was a “people person” who never met a stranger. She loved entertaining her friends and relatives. Her real hobby was fishing. She accompanied her nephew James “Boo” Love and her son William on fishing trips throughout South Georgia and North Florida Catching them was much more fun for her than cooking or eating them. Enduring the hot sun or the bitter cold “just to wet her hook made her happy.



A TIME TO DIE: God called this mother, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt and cousin unto eternal rest on Sunday, Evening April 22, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her son and 10 siblings: Alice, James, Thelma, Ora Lee, Dorothy, Tommy, Gorge, Gwendolyn, Julius and Miriam.



A TIME TO MOURN: The legacy of Mrs. Walden’s season is left to her loving and devoted family.
