Reflections of Life
Curtis Dowdell was born on July 4th, 1942 to the late Saint Elmore Dowdell and
Geneva Horne Dowdell in Amsterdam, Ga.
After a long journey of sickness, Curtis received his wings on February 4th, 2026
at Vitas Healthcare in Orlando,Florida. He passed with his wife JoAnn at his side.
He grew up in Amsterdam,Ga where he was educated in the Decatur County
School System. He was well known for his home cooked meals,talking trash, and
keeping everybody happy. He will be remembered for his sweet spirit and kind
heart.
He was employed with Bubba Cone Construction and he also worked for the City
of Bainbridge. Over the years he moved to Orlando,Florida where he started
working with Webb and Tucker Masonry for twenty years. He then started working
at Cintas Uniform Company for twenty eight years, until his health failed.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Alvesta Dowdell Moore, and to this
union they were blessed with one daughter . Later in life he married JoAnn Crapp
to this union he was blessed with four children. Later, he had one other son.
In addition to his parents Curtis was preceded in death along with his siblings
Johnny,Eddie Sr.,Rosa, and Saint T. He leaves to cherish his loving memories his Wife JoAnn Dowdell of Orlando,Florida, two daughters Annette Dowdell Alston of
Attapulgus,Georgia, Cherita(Jamie) Dowdell of Bainbridge,Georgia,three sons
Curtis Dowdell Jr. of Midway, Florida,Christopher(Shanita)Dowdell of
Orlando,Fl,Travis Dowdell of Orlando, Florida. A special niece Dorothy “Cookie”
Thomas of Quincy,Fl. A special friend Richard Knight and Bud Gibson of
Attapulgus, Ga. Twelve grandkids and one great great grand. A host of
nephews,nieces,brother-in-laws,sister laws ,and Cousins many more loved ones.
