Obituary for Cynthia Baulkmon Grier

Reflections of Life

Cynthia passed peacefully from this life the evening of September 16, 2023 after a gradual decline in health. She was surrounded by her loving family and caregivers. She was born on November 6, 1955 to the parents of Charlie and Lillian Baulkmon in Bainbridge, Georgia.

She was a 1973 graduate of Bainbridge High School. After high school she attended Spelman College where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in 1977 and a Master’s Degree a few years later from Georgia State University. She worked as an Educator in the DeKalb County School district for 40 years. She retired in 2016 but continued to work as an After-school administrator in the Henry County School System until her death. She loved the Lord, her family, and all of the Atlanta sports teams, especially her Falcons. Cynthia was a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Inc.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charlie Baulkmon, grandmother, Annie B. Cleveland and sister, Ossie Baulkmon Thompson.

Cynthia is survived by her mother: Lillian Lorene Baulkmon, her beloved son: Rafael D. Grier II, siblings: Elizabeth Baulkmon Anderson, Earnest J. Baulkmon I, Charlie J. (Ruth) Baulkmon, Mary Baulkmon (William) Reynolds and Robbie Baulkmon Paige, a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews and, her in-laws, Rafael Grier I and George and Mae Grier.

While in the school system she met people she loved, inspired and admired. There are too many to name but I do want to recognize her Village Family. They were by her side, showing love and support to all of us, continuously from the moment they found out that she was ill. They are Pattie Lemelle, Brenda Strickland, Thaddeus Dixon, Paris Byrd, Shante Franklin (God-Daughter Harper) and Nakiesha Sinclair.

Cynthia will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She was the glue that held the family together. She was the counselor, arbitrator and negotiator of the family. She was honest, loving and fair. Family meant everything to her.
