Obituary for Deacon Thomas Gaines
Thomas Gaines was born on August 29, 1944 in Mitchell County, GA to the late Tommy Gaines, Sr. and Marie Johnson Gaines. He attended Oak Grove School. He worked over 45 years with Riverview Plantation, as a Farmer and a Master Hunting Guide. For those who knew him, he had a natural instinct for finding the elusive Bob White Quail. He departed this life peacefully on January 24, 2024 at his home in Hopeful, GA.
Thomas confessed Christ as his Savior at a young age. He served as a Deacon at Greater St. Mark MB Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Gaines. Their union was blessed with three kids. One preceded him in death, his only daughter, Sherry Genice Gaines. He was also preceded in death by nine siblings/cousins: Cleveland (Lila) Hayes, Samuel (Angela) Gaines, Sr, Tommy (Emma) Gaines, Jr, Carolyn Johnson, Rosa Perkins, Calvin Gaines, Robert Hall, Glen Johnson and Donald Jones.
He leaves to cherish his memories two sons, Michael (Kim) Gaines of Watertown, TN; Gregory (Patricia) Gaines of Pelham, GA; Grandchildren, Raymondo (Ashley) Wimberly of McDonough, GA; Courtney (Tyrone) Hall of Leesburg, GA; Demitra (Roscoe) Jones of Pelham, GA; Demitrius Bryant of Hopeful, GA; Michaele Gaines of Watertown, TN, Miriam (Darius) Kidd Of Mt. Juliet, TN, Miya Gaines of Murfreesboro, TN; Chelsea Hall of Charlotte, NC; Sisters, Paticia Gaines, Marion Tyler both of Bainbridge, GA; Lacey Gaines of Augusta, GA and Dorothy Rogers of Union, NJ; Brothers Milton Gaines, Sr. of Bainbridge, GA; Ray Gaines (Alexandria) of Fort Worth, TX and cousin-brother Raymond (Vanessa) Nichalson of Bainbridge, GA. “his boy” Biscuit; 11 great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
