Reflections of Life
Willie Lee Shilo, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle passed away peacefully on August 22, 2024, at the age of 92 with his beloved family by his side. Born on July 31, 1932, in Dawson, GA, Willie was raised by the late Mr. Johnny K. Austin and Mrs. Gertrude Austin. He grew up alongside his nine siblings, fostering close bonds that would last a lifetime. Many of his siblings preceded him in death, Willie is survived by his two beloved sisters, Janie Grace and Charlie Mae Kelly who have continued to carry forward their family legacy.
Willie was married to Loretha McCall Shilo, they celebrated many wonderful years of marriage before she preceded him in death, to this union eight children were born. They had a strong devoted love for each other and instilled strong family values in the lives of their children.
Throughout his life, Willie was known for his dedicated work at Engelhard Corporation and Decatur County Board of Education School Bus Driver. Born with a natural talent for music, Willie was a cherished member of The Golden Echoes, whose harmonious voice and passionate performances captivated audiences for years. Willie formed long-time friendships through his love of music and was well-known for his gospel quartet singing. Willie was also a faithful Deacon of Mt. Ararat Primitive Baptist Church in McCarville, GA.
Willie was a devoted and esteemed lifetime member of Masonic Calvary Lodge 389, embodying the values of brotherhood, charity, and integrity that define the Masonic tradition; with the commitment to the principles of Masonry shown evident throughout his long and honorable life.
While Willie loved music and was a dedicated hardworking man; his pride and joy was his family. “Daddy” as he was affectionately known by his children, grandchildren and great grands. His legacy of love and family exuded in every aspect of his life. Daddy was cared for by his family until he was called to his everlasting home.
Daddy is survived by his nine children, Margaret Hover, Georgia Wilson, Willie Shilo, Pearl Johnson, Jackie Jamison (Kerry), Fredrick Shilo (Terri), Michael Shilo (Shivella), and Lakeisha Shilo. Willie Elijah Shilo preceded them in death. His children will forever remember the unwavering support, wisdom, and the countless lessons he imparted.
His unconditional love also extended to all his seventeen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. Daddy loved and cherished each one deeply, always making time to be a part of their lives. Special recognition is given to his granddaughter Wanshanda Shilo for her steadfast devotion as his caretaker. Daddy was a devoted father figure who made a deep impact and will forever live in Wanshanda’s heart.
While Daddy is survived by his many grandchildren, Fredricka Renea Shilo preceded him in death, their reunion will be joyous for them both. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, friends and a community who will always cherish the precious moments in which they shared.
Willie touched many lives with his generosity and warmth, his memory will live on in our hearts. His legacy of love, strength and devotion made him a one of a kind who will be deeply missed by many.
