The Obituary
Dorothy Mae Gaines was born on April 26, 1943 in Mitchell County, GA to the late Ella Mae Williams and Willie Williams. She attended Camilla Consolidated High School. She worked over 30 years at Riverview Plantation, as their head cook, where she became known for her famous fried chicken, pecan pie and the best Red Velvet cake you ever had in your mouth! She departed this life peacefully on September 17, 2021 at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, GA.
Dorothy confessed Christ as her Savior at a young age. She served as a Mother at Greater St. Mark MB Church.
She married the love of her life, Thomas Gaines, on September 8, 1962. To this union three children were born. One preceded her in death, her only daughter, Sherry Genice Gaines. She was also preceded in death by three siblings: KC Williams, Ruby Grant and Willie C. (Budd) Williams.
She leaves to cherish her memories a loving and devoted husband, Thomas Gaines of Hopeful, GA; sons, Michael (Kim) Gaines of Mt. Juliet, TN; Gregory (Patricia) Gaines of Pelham, GA; sisters: Mary Moore, Joann Youmans both of Albany, GA; Claretha (James) Crump of Hopeful, GA; Barbara (Joe) Childs of Pelham, GA; brothers: RJ (Lorene) Williams, Willie Frank (Shirley) Williams both of Hopeful, GA; Robert (Lillian)Williams of North Carolina; Willie Mack "Charlie" (Karen) Williams of Alexandria, VA; Grandchildren: Raymondo (Ashley) Wimberly of McDonough, GA; Courtney (Tyrone) Hall of Albany, GA; Demitra (Roscoe) Jones of Pelham, GA; Demitrius Bryant of Valdosta, GA; Michaele Gaines, Miriam (Darius) Kidd, Miya Gaines all of Mt. Juliet, TN; Chelsea Hall of Charlotte, NC; "her baby" Biscuit; ten great grandchildren;
eight sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces,nephews, relatives
