Sister Essie Lee Willingham was born to the late Albert and Lola Bell Willingham on July 31, 1944 in Donalsonville, Georgia. She was the first born of three children.

Sister Essie attended public schools in Decatur County graduating from Hutto High School class of 1964. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Zuma MB Church. After graduating high school she attended Bainbridge College and became a Certified Nursing Assistant. She was employed at Memorial Hospital and Manor for thirty-six years until her retirement. She then went to work at Willow Ridge Assistant living facility until her health failed.
Sister Essie was loved by everyone who knew her. She was a loving, caring, and giving person. One of her greatest joys was her family. Essie enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great –grandchildren, tending to her flowers and selling Avon.

On January 2, 2020 Essie received her final calling at Memorial Hospital and Manor to join her loved ones that proceeded her in death. She will now join her sons: Cassius Willingham, Byron Willingham, grandson: Jalen Isaac, granddaughter: Zhavia Andrews, sister: Geneva Willingham, and a special friend of thirty years: Henry Cummings.

Sister Essie leaves to cherish her memories: one son: Christopher Willingham (Katrina) of Donalsonville, GA; Five daughters: Ursula Anthony, Yolanda Knight (Ronald), Leslie Bailey (Kenneth), April Willingham, and Kristin Smith (Dennis) all of Bainbridge, GA; One Sister: Emma Green (Leo) of Bainbridge, GA; Two step-sons: Eric Battle (Gwen) of Bainbridge, GA; And Terry Cummings of Lakeland, FL; Two granddaughters that she raised as her own: Reketa Keaton (Levandis) and Jaleesa Willingham both of Bainbridge, GA; A devoted and caring nephew that she helped raise: Eferem Willingham of Bainbridge, GA; Fourteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
