Obituary for Essie M. Williams
Essie Mae Cooper Williams was called from labor to reward on April 2, 2017 at 3:30 a.m. She was born in Climax, Georgia to the late George and Claudia Cooper. On September 14, 1917, she would often share her memories of living in the town of Perrine, Florida. She was educated in the Decatur county school system and later met and married Nathaniel Williams. To this union two children were born: Dorris and Sarah.
She joined the Mt. Moriah #2 Missionary Baptist church at an early age. Essie was a great servant of her church. She served on the usher board and enjoyed teaching Sunday school to the youth. She was employed in the Decatur County School System as a food service worker for twenty years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathaniel Williams; seven siblings: Willie c. Cooper, Leroy Cooper, Felton Cooper, Lonnie Cooper, Minnie Lee Swain, Annie Mae Cooper and Inez Harrell; Two children: Dorris Lee Williams and Sarah Alice Wiley; one grandson; Kelvin Lenard Williams.
Essie lived a full life of 99 years. She loved her family, her friends and her church. Her favorite quote was: “Times been won’t be any more." and she enjoyed singing her favorite song: "Leaning On The Everlasting Arm."
She enjoyed working in her yard, taking care of her family and others within her community. She was the matriarch of the family, always giving sound advice to sharing her wisdom with her siblings, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She leaves to cherish her memory: a devoted daughter-in-law: Carrie M. Williams, Tallahassee. Florida; A devoted brother: James Cooper I (Lillie) of Las Vegas, NV; adopted son: James Cooper II (Cassandra) of Tuskegee, Alabama; three grandchildren: Tony Williams (Judy) of Atlanta, GA; Zina Sinclair (Ray) of Jacksonville, Florida; Sherwanna Williams of Tallahassee, Florida; eight great grandchildren: Latayja Pride, Nacya Wates (Jermaine), Rodney Lewis, Evan Williams, Aaron Williams, Samaria Rollins, Sidney Williams and Artazion Sinclair; two great-great grandchildren: Jermaine Wates II and Jemere Lewis: a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
I was chosen today. I'm learning to fly. The world took me away. But please don’t you cry.
And I chose you today, to try and be strong. So, please don't you cry. And don't say that I'm gone.
When you feeling alone, just remember our love. I'm up near the stars, looking down from above.
Remember our love. In a moment you'll see, that I'm still here beside you, when you’re thinking of me.
