Evelyn Brown Hughes “Sister”
August 28, 1941 - September 11, 2024
Evelyn Brown Hughes, affectionately known as "Sister," was born on August 28, 1941, to the late Toby and Allene Brown. On September 11, 2024, she peacefully departed this life at her home.
Evelyn attended public schools in Brinson and Bainbridge, Georgia. She enjoyed bowling, a hobby that brought her much joy throughout her life. In her early years, she left Georgia and briefly resided in Miami, Florida. Evelyn was a free spirit, traveling extensively before settling in Newark, New Jersey, where she made lasting memories and enjoyed life to the fullest.
During her time in Newark, Evelyn became a dedicated member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. After relocating back to Bainbridge, Georgia, in 2005, she continued her spiritual journey as a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Brinson. Evelyn deeply cherished her family and friends and loved spending time socializing with them.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Eddie, Eugene, Toby, Mack Arthur, and Robert Brown.
Evelyn leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her devoted husband of 39 years, Kenneth Hughes, and her daughter, Dena Brown, along with her four beloved grandchildren: Curtis, Quatasia, Rashad, and Kiayana. She is also remembered by six stepchildren. Her surviving siblings: Calvin Brown, Sr. (South Carolina) and Edith Brown (Atlanta, GA). Evelyn's memory will also live on through her many devoted nieces and nephews: Keisha Alloteh and Ashley Clark (Atlanta, GA), Betty Brown (Bainbridge, GA), Cynthia Sanders (Linden, NJ), Barbara Hudnell (Roselle Park, NJ), Zsa' Vonna Brown (Albany, GA), Cierra Martin and Kizzie Brown (Bainbridge, GA), Joshua Alloteh and Steven Clark (Atlanta, GA), Calvin Brown, Jr. (Irvington, NJ), Marcel Brown (Cairo, GA), Charlie Brown (Brinson, GA), Robert Brown, Jr. (Atlanta, GA), Toby Webbs, Charsuede Keaton, and Jessie Brown (all from Bainbridge, GA), and Ayden Brown (Albany, GA); Evelyn shared a special bond with her cousins Chris Williams (Bainbridge, GA) and Futura Glenn (Newark, NJ). Her best friends, Ethel Williams (Donalsonville, GA) and Grace Finney (Jacksonville, FL), along with a host of other nieces, nephews, family, and friends, will forever remember her kindness and love.
Evelyn’s life was one filled with love, faith, and deep connections to those around her. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
