Gwendolyn Deloris Mitchell “Gwen” was born on June 20, 1957 in Bainbridge, Georgia. To the late Winnie L. Hampton and Norman Hampton Jr. She departed this life on July 27, 2020.
She attended and graduated from Bainbridge High School. Throughout her life, Gwen was able to have the experience in several interesting career paths. Starting with a career as a factory worker, child care provider, and ending in the Dougherty County School System. Gwen was affectionately known as “Nana” not only by her own grandchildren but also by the children whose lives that she touched and treated as her own. Gwen gave her life to Christ at an early age. Most recently Gwen called House of Hope Fellowship Church in Albany, Georgia her church home.
Gwen leaves her devoted husband John W. Mitchell; her three loving children: Ashley Mitchell, John C. Mitchell, and Kelly Mitchell; her three loving grandchildren: Jalen Perkins, Cameron “Chop” Sims, and Peyton Hayes; her father: Norman Hampton Jr. and her two brothers: Reginald Hampton Sr. and Norman Hampton III to cherish her memory. Gwen also leaves behind a host of brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews, cousins and beloved friends.
Gwen is preceded in death by her mother Winnie L. Hampton, and her grandmother Emma L. Reynolds.
