Honoring Hazel
On November 25, 2024, Hazel Burney was called to rest by our beloved Father. Hazel was born on July 22, 1940, to the late Johnnie Lee and Kalista Miller, Hazel lived a life of faith, love, and unwavering devotion to her family and community. She was preceded in death by her brother, Andrew Miller, her sister, Helen Miller, and her son, Clyde Miller.
At an early age, Hazel joined Branchville M.B. Church, where she served faithfully until dedicating her time as a full-time caregiver for her sister and niece, exemplifying the compassion and selflessness that defined her life.
Hazel was united in holy matrimony to the late Mose Burney. She built a legacy of love, care, and strength that shaped the lives of all who knew her. Hazel was always a source of support and warmth for her family, sharing her kindness and strength in every moment. Her famous home-cooked meals became the heart of family gatherings, bringing everyone together with love and laughter.
Though she will be deeply missed, we rejoice in knowing that Hazel is now at peace in the presence of the Lord.
She leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory: Daughters: Tynese Bryant, Cheryl Miller, Debra Burney, and Shelia Alexander; Sons: Ervin Burney, Wayne Burney, Reginald Burney (Kim), and Tyrone Burney (Nicole).
Siblings: Sister Annie D. McNair (Patrick; brothers James E. Miller and Bobby Miller. Hazel was also a proud grandmother to 14 grandchildren, a great-grandmother to 28 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandmother to 9 great-great-grandchildren.
She leaves behind a host of devoted family and friends, including her special aunt Laura Ann Smith; loyal sister-in-law Azzie Lockett; brother-in-law Johnny "Gator" Burney; nieces Merle Miller and Pamela Hayes Randall; and two bonus children, Antonio "Dooley" Walter and Doris "Nank" Ware. Hazel was loved by a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and special friends whose lives were enriched by her presence.
Hazel’s life was a testament to faith, family, and resilience. Her legacy of love will continue to inspire all who knew her.
