Obituary for Hester J. Knight
Mrs. Hester J. Knight was born September 30, 1926 in Amsterdam, Georgia. She was born the daughter of Frank and Rebecca President James and laterbecame the step daughter of Mr. Webb Benton. Mrs. Hester as we knew her gave her life to Christ at a young age and joined Smith Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Amsterdam, Georgia where she served faithfully until her health began to fail. She then joined Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Fowlstown, Georgia led by Pastor Johnny Brown, until her passing. She received most of her formal education at the old Mt. Moriah School in Attapulgus, Georgia. On August 14, 1948, she became a devoted wife to the late Rev. William H. Knight and from this union; she gave birth to seven children. Mrs. Hester J. Knight leaves in cherish memories her children, Wallace (Latheria) Knight of Havana, Florida, Morris Knight of Tallahassee, Florida, Vivian Knight, Marvin (Michelle) Knight, Naomi (Andre) Carter, Barbara Knight, and Gladys Kelly all of Attapulgus, Georgia. She also leaves a sister Hattie Harris of Philadelphia, PA, a step-son James Hall and two adopted daughters, Jennifer Mitchell and Ashley Glover, two brothers-in-law, Richard (Lottie) Knight and Lauro Knight and a sister-in-law Julia Knight. shw leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and all the young people in the community. We would like to give a special thanks to her longtime friends Ella Mae Faulk and Pearl McGill.
