Ida Marie Akins


Ida Akins was born in Fort Myers FL in 1939 to father Elder Luke McCormick and mother Nettie McCormick she was the 7th of 10 children she had 6 sisters and 4 brothers: Mr. Luke Jr, Mr. Lucius, Mr. Walter and Mr. Tevah (each deceased) Fort Pierce FL; Mrs. Ann Lane, Mrs. Mary Everett and Mrs. Beulah (all deceased) Fort Pierce FL Mrs. Luvina Bradford(deceased) Clewiston, Florida; Mrs. Shirley Evans (deceased) Detroit MI and one surviving sister Mrs. Betty Charley, Detroit MI.


 A Time to Serve

Ida accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at a very early age. She faithfully followed her father Elder McCormick to serve every time the doors opened at the Apostle Faithful Church of Jesus in Fort Pierce, FL. Later, she moved to Bainbridge, GA with her family and rededicated herself to First African Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Henry L. Flowers III where she faithfully served in the choir.


A Time to Work

Ida attended Lincoln Park Academy Fort Pierce FL where she played the saxophone. After moving to Bainbridge GA area, she worked as a dietician at Bainbridge John Johnson elementary school for the Decatur County School board until retiring after 10 years.


A Time to Love

In the year of 1957 Ida met and was later joined in holy Matrimony to the late Eddie Atkins, Jr. 46 years and they had four children. She was preceded in death by her two daughters: Blondell Lyvonne Akins Rushing, Atlanta, GA and Norma Lynn Akins Jamaica NY; her youngest son: Dennis L. Akins (Londa), Bainbridge, GA.


She leaves to cherish her memory her loving son: Eddie L. Akins (Sylvia), Bonaire, GA; two granddaughters: Monique Rushing and Tasia Akins, Bainbridge, GA; one grandson: Jaleer Akins, Bainbridge GA; great grandchildren: Avion Patterson and Elias Guyton, Bainbridge, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends.
