Obituary for Ilene Marie Ross
Mother Ilene Marie Ross passed away peacefully from this life on May 14, 2017. She was a woman who loved and served God and her family. The oldest of three children, she was born to the late John and Anna Johnson Brown on October 29, 1930 in Cuthbert, GA. Mrs. Ross graduated from Randolph County High School in 1948. She attended Savannah State College, where she later met and married Joseph Ross and remained married for over 45 years until his death in 1998. Mrs. Ross was hired as a teacher at Coleman Georgia Benevolence School in 1952 and then later employed at Decatur County School Board for 38 years where she retired in 1993. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a long time active member of the Greater Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Bainbridge, GA. She served as the President of Usher Board #2 and 3 and Director of the King Youth and Junior choirs. When called upon, she was always willing to serve in other capacities. In 1983 she was presented an award as “Woman of the Year” at the Greater Macedonia Baptist Church. Mrs. Ross later became a member of True Gospel Baptist Church in 2007 where she served until her death.
True Gospel Baptist awarded her “The Dorcas Award” for her good works; a leader in her church and community. Mrs. Ross carried herself in a way that everyone could emulate and respect. She loved everyone she knew. She was known for her hats and her culinary skills---especially her cakes, pies and “Hutto cinnamon rolls”.
Mrs. Ross was preceded in death by her husband of over 45 years Joseph Ross.
She is survived by son, Joel Ricky Ross (Kimberly), Thomasville, GA; Nephew and Niece who she raised after the passing of her sister Daisy, James Brown, Bainbridge, GA and Annette Brown, Jacksonville, FL; Three grandsons Jovonte Ricky Ross( Brianna), Joseph Ja’Myle Ross and Jacob Joel Ross; great granddaughter: Aubri Ross; stepdaughter: Betty Jo Bowens; goddaughter: Mrs. Lodia Ford (Donte), Tallahassee, FL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives as well as a loving pastor and church family of True Gospel Baptist Church.
