Obituary

Ms. Jewell Williams was born in Bay County, Florida on June 15, 1925 to the late George and Ella Mae Williams. She was the third oldest of 10 children, 8 of her siblings preceded her in death. “T-Jewell” as she was affectionately called, answered the Lord’s call and departed this life on Thursday, May 15, 2025

She accepted Christ at an early age and walked very close to the Lord throughout her life. She received her early education in Brinson, GA and lived there until moving to Jacksonville, FL in the mid 40’s where she worked as a substitute teacher while attending Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, FL. Jewell later moved to Miami, FL where she continued her education in the nursing field and worked at Jackson Memorial Hospital for many years before retiring and moving back to Bainbridge, GA. While living in Miami, FL she was an active member of St Paul A.M.E. Church. She also loved socializing and spending time with friends, especially during her annual birthday celebration and party.

Jewell joined Nelson Chapel AME Church after returning to Bainbridge and worked faithfully in the church and served in any capacity needed. She was also an active member of Lay Organization. She continued her work in the community as a volunteer teacher at Janet Mitchell’s daycare, at senior citizen center, and a participant in church events. Jewell also visited various AME churches in the area spreading the gospel with love and without boundaries. She was always ready and willing to help in any way she could, caring for the sick and shut-in or driving them to their doctor’s appointments, drug store, grocery store and any errands needed, she was a faithful servant to all.

Although she has received many awards, commendations, accolades, and recognition of her service, the greatest gift she has received is the recognition from God through a long life, good health, a loving family, and faithful friends, which is reward enough. She loved family, especially her nieces and nephews and was always proud of their accomplishments and achievements. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Johnny Smith as well as 8 of her siblings. Her sweet spirit will be greatly missed.

She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories: one sister, Rev. Rebecca Kearny of Tampa, FL. A close friend, Ms Willie Mae Johnson, Miami, FL. Nieces: Annie Salami, Donna Williams of Bainbridge, Lois McCullough of Chicago, IL, Glendora Robinson of Atlanta, Patrica Harvey (Maurice), Becky Tyree of Tamp, FL; Nephews: George Freeman (Vera), Walter Freeman (Aeran), Samuel Freeman (Phyllis) of Bainbridge, Tom Freeman of Atlanta, GA, Gregory Cooper (Reagena) of Tampa, FL, and many great nephews, great nieces, cousins, other family and friends.
