Obituary

Born on January 19, 1956, the 10th of 13 children to the late Pastor Eustice Edward Mitchell Sr. and the late Gussie Mae (McGriff) Mitchell. Jimmie was born in Calvary, Georgia and raised in Bainbridge Georgia. He was raised to honor God and was a member of Mt Zuma Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as an ordained deacon. He was an amazing pianist who ministered through his singing and music.

Jimmie received his education in the Decatur County school system where he met the love of his life, Sherree Belinda Goss, affectionately known as Sherry whom he later was united to in Holy Matrimony. To this union, Jimmie had four loving and beautiful children, Sherria, Chifonna, Jimmy Jr, and Yolanda.

Over the years, Jimmie has been an inspiration to many people in Bainbridge, surrounding towns, communities and churches. He was a man with an infectious personality. He never met a stranger. He was a man of extraordinary talents. A great singer and an amazing pianist.

Jimmie played the piano as the minister of music at several churches which included Mt. Zuma Missionary Baptist Church of Bainbridge, Georgia, Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church of Havana, Florida, Second Morning Star of Attapulgus, Georgia and Bryant Chapel of Reno, Georgia. It was said, he would play the piano until it literally started, jumping, rocking and rolling. Jimmie along with his brothers, Harry and Terry; formed the gospel quartet group “The Mitchell Brothers”. Jimmie was the lead singer who was gifted with the ability to facilitate the move of the joy of the Lord throughout the building. As it has been quoted by many, “There will never be another Jimmie Mitchell”.

Family love was an important aspect of Jimmie’s life. He was proud of his children and often spoke of them. He knew his children love him. He’d often just thank the Lord during devotional prayer for his children. His children cared for him during his illness until God called him home to rest.

Jimmie leaves to cherish his precious memories, a wife (Gloria Henton), two sons Jimmy Mitchell Jr, David Brown, and a bonus son Rodney Hollins, three daughters Sherria Norwood (Nicodious), Chifonna Smith and Yolanda Mitchell. Seven grandchildren, two whom he helped raise as his very own Benjamin Mitchell and Javious Mitchell. Eight great grandchildren, three brothers Pastor Dr. Eustice Mitchell Jr (Delphine), Pastor Harry Mitchell Sr.(Cynthia) and Deacon Terry Mitchell. Five sisters Louise Hatcher, Ida Duckworth, (Percy) Doris Benton, Levon Nelson (Don) and Brenda Bush (Reginald), and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sherree Belinda Mitchell, his father Pastor Eustice Mitchell Sr, mother Gussie Mae Mitchell, brothers Larry Mitchell and James Mitchell, sisters, Gladys Lowe (Charles Lowe), Almorris Reddick (Clarence), brother-in-law, Roger Hatcher, sister-in-law, Laverne Mitchell and grandchildren Jasmine Owens and Nassir Smith.
