Obituary for Lendie Whigham
Mother Lendie Louise Brown Whigham was born August 12, 1917, in Cedar Springs, Ga, to the late Matthew Brown and Lou Battle Brown-Williams. She spent her early years in Donalsonville and Bainbridge, Ga.
On October 6, 1935, she was joined in holy matrimony with John Davis Whigham, Sr. in Climax, Ga.
Mother Whigham leaves to cherish her memories with three sons: John D. Whigham, Jr. (Christine), Sumter, South Carolina; Daniel Whigham (Cynthia), Albany, Ga., and Richard Whigham (JoeAnne), Fayetteville, North Carolina. Five daughters: Annie P. Butler, Leola Whigham, Johnnie M. Livingston (Abraham), all of Bainbridge; Felecia Simmons, Albany, Ga., and Delores Flemming, also of Bainbridge. She also leaves to mourn one sister, Arilla Foster, 35 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren, 39 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was a faithful member of Salem M. B. Church, where she served as Church Mother, as well as a member of the Mission and Culinary Ministry.
Mother Whigham “MeMa” was loved by all who knew her. She never met a stranger and was full of wisdom that she didn’t mind sharing over a few of her tea cakes. She spent her time reading her Bible daily, fishing, when she felt up to it, and making quilts for her family.
She loved life and lived it to the fullest.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, four children, three grandchildren, three great grandchildren, five sisters and five brothers.
