Obituary for Lester Roberts
Lester Roberts (aka Ray) was born on June 5, 1943 in Bainbridge, Georgia to the late Fred (Fed) and Flora Roberts. He was educated in the Georgia school system. Lester's mom whom he dearly loved, instilled in him a great work ethic. Lester was always a hard worker and he always wanted to please his mom. When he became 18, he moved to Philadelphia, PA to reside with his older brother, Major. Majorworked at The Food Distribution Center at E. Frank Hopkins Seafood in South Philadelphia and he was responsible for Lester getting hired.Lester was hired as a packer loading the trucks and because of his excellent work ethic, he was promoted to truck driver and deliveredlocally and long distance as far as Virginia for many years. When E Frank Hopkins changed ownership, Lester transferred his seniority as a driver in the union and was hired by Liberty Fish Co. as a truck driver/delivery person until he retired 47 years later. Socially, Lester was also known as "Ray" to the ladies. He was an impeccable dresser and known for his sense of style, loved the finer things in life such as cars, fine clothes and he had no problem spending on anything he wanted. He worked hard for everything he achieved. He had a special relationship with the seniors and worked extremely hard to accomplish his goals. He was a master saver and knew how to stretch a dollar. Lester was always respectful of the elderly and went out of his way to assist others. He loved good food and introduced many to all types of seafood including frog legs. His favorite pastimeswas watching baseball games. At an early age, he was introduced to Jesus by his mom. He would often say "God is taking care of me" or "I trust the Lord!" After retiring, Lester started his own lawn service business. Consequently, no one could clean your lawn, cut the grass or trim your bushes better. His work ethic was always exceptional!. He continued at this venture until he fell ill and was advised by his doctors to discontinue the business due to his illness. Shortly after this diagnosis, he decided to move back to Georgia where he resided until his demise. His proudest moments were when he discussed his family, especially his daughters. He leaves to cherish fond memories 4 children: Sandra, Mimi, Courtney and Tara,7 Grandchildren: Emmanuel NaJee, Imani Jachin (Sandra); Desi (Mimi); Tiarra, Kenyetta, Kennesha (Tara) and 1 Great grandson:Jadien(Desi) He also leaves two sisters: Georgiaand Shirley; 1 brother Freddie; 1 sister in law (Pat); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and 1 special friend of 42 years Pat and her daughters: Cherita and Delcita
