Obituary for Lillie Mae Freeman
Mother Lillie Mae Freeman was born in Bay Harbor, Florida on February 10, 1920 to the late George and Ella Mae Williams. She was the oldest of ten children, seven of which preceded her in death. "Moa" as she was affectionately called, answered the Lord's call on Tuesday, November
21, 2016.
She accepted CHRIST at an early age and walked close to the Lord
throughout her life. She received her early education in Brinson, GA
and lived there until moving to Bainbridge in the mid 1940's where she
met and married Tom Freeman, Sr. She was a faithful and devoted wife
for over 43 years until his death in 1966.
Mother Lillie Mae joined Nelson Chapel AME Church under the leadership of Reverend C.E. Shepard in the mid 1960's. She worked faithfully in
many auxiliaries serving in almost every capacity of the local church.
She was a life member of the 6th Episcopal District of the Women's
Missionary Society, served on the Usher Board, was director of the
Young People's Department (YPD), member of the Lay Organization,
taught Sunday School, and was an Ordained Deaconess. Lillie Mae was a
dedicated servant of the Lord always ready and willing to help others
in any way she could - babysitting her many grandchildren, caring for
the sick and shut-in, driving them to doctor's appointments, to church
or running any errands needed.
Although she has received many awards, accolades and recognition for
her service, the greatest gift she has received is the recognition
from God through a long life, good health, a loving family, and
faithful friends. She loved family, especially her grandchildren and
was always proud of their accomplishments and achievements.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, seven
siblings, three sons - Lucious Humphrey, Sr., Joseph Freeman, and
Louis Freeman, Sr.
She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories, three daughters - Lois
McCullough of Chicago, IL, Annie Salami of Bainbridge, Glendora
Robinson of Atlanta; four sons - George Freeman, Sr. (Vera) of
Bainbridge, Tom Freeman, Jr. (Ester) of Atlanta, Walter Freeman (Sony)
of Bainbridge, and Samuel Freeman (Phyllis) of Bainbridge; two sisters: Jewell Williams of Bainbridge and Rebecca Kearney of Tampa, FL; over
one hundred fifty grand, great grand, and great-great grandchildren;
and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends.
