Mrs. Marion Ellen (Smiley) Edwards, was the second of four children, born on October 29, 1938, to the late Deacon Leroy Sr. and Julia Mae (Burke) Smiley in Bainbridge, GA. She was educated in Decatur County Georgia Education system. She has been a devoted member of Union Missionary Baptist Church for over 60 years, serving in various capacities, most notable as an usher board member.
She united in Holy Matrimony with the late Curtis Edwards, Sr. of Bainbridge, GA in 1954. To this union, ten children were born of which Curtis Jr. preceded her in death. One grandson, Torrey V. Edwards, also preceded her in death.
She leaves nine children of this union to cherish her memories to include; Gwendolyn (Bainbridge); Willie (Bainbridge); Marcus (Gail)(Atlanta ,GA); Bobby (Bainbridge); Larry (Bainbridge); Arlene (Bainbridge); Darlene Cull (David)(Bainbridge); Benny Roy (Albany, GA) and Kenneth (Seattle, WA); Additional children include Xavier Jackson (Augusta, GA) and Tyrell Wilcher (Bainbridge) She is survived by one sister: Mrs. Joyce Wilson, (Bainbridge); She has a surviving brother/nephew Gregory Smiley (Thomasville, GA); three sister in laws: Olive Edwards, Springfield, MA; Ruby Edwards (Hattiesburg, MS); Betty J. Smiley (Valdosta, GA); 24 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; one special cousin, Ms. Bessie Mae Smith (Washington, DC); and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and devoted friends.
