Life and Legacy for Mr. Marlon Breedlove
“May the Work I have done, speak for me.”
Marlon Breedlove was born on March 20th, 1949, to the late Semoulia and Pannella Breedlove. Marlon married the love of his life Mary Ann Clark on December 8th, 1968. They were married for fifty-six years. Their love created four sons. One of his favorite things was sitting in his recliner, while his wife brought him coffee and ice cream late at night watching westerns. His side of the living room was filled with all his personal snacks, mostly sweets. You knew he was ready to go fishing when you would see him on his boat for hours, organizing and cleaning it. If there was a speech or just something to say, you could count on Marlon to lead it. And didn’t care how long you thought it was taking. He would say, “well somebody has to say it”. He was the exemplary husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend and business owner.
Marlon received Christ at an early age at New Salem Freewill Baptist Church, where he served as a dedicated Deacon and Choir member.
His education and training were received from Hutto High School, class of 1967. Two years at Monroe Area Vocational School, gaining his professional and esteemed career training with his Certificate of Masonry. Other training from Fort Valley State College, Albany State College, Georgia Central College.
Marlon began his entrepreneurship in becoming a business owner, operating Breedlove Masonry for over 50 years. His prestige work as a Brick Mason can be seen throughout Decatur and neighboring counties. He knew every brick he laid, and what year he completed the job.
Marlon devoted a considerable amount of time and energy to the educational community of Decatur County; he has contributed to the political and civic affairs as a board member of various boards and committees. Board Member of the Developmental Authority Board for Decatur County and Bainbridge. The Salary and compensation committee, Habitat for Humanity, Committee on Crime, Minority Recruitment Board, Board of Education, Minority Recruitment Task Force for Qualified Minority Teachers, Recruitment/Selection committee for Assistant Superintendent, Member of Adult Education Program/Chamber of Commerce Literacy Program, Career Day Representative for Bainbridge Vocational/Technical Seminars. He was member of the Jury Commission, Sales Tax Committee, School Tax Committee, Salary and Compensation. Martin Luther King, Jr Birthday Celebration committee.
One of is esteemed accomplishments was serving as President of the NAACP (Decatur County Chapter) for several dedicated years.
Marlon was one of three organizers for Men on a Mission, a support group for needed citizens of Decatur County. He served as Chairman of the Decatur County Brothers in Christ. His purpose was to support the Board of Education with community involvements, stoplights, school bus crossing guards, minority after school programs and appropriate school bus hiring practices.
Marlon directed his attention towards Washington, D.C, lobbying for the Black Farmers Lawsuit for Decatur and Doughtery County.
Marlon received several award and recognitions for his civic, political and religious achievements from Congressman Sanford Bishop, Governor Zell Miller, The City of Bainbridge, The Decatur County NAACP Chapter, Decatur County Board of Education, Richard Schermerhorn of The University of Georgia, Southwestern State Hospital, the Roy Wilkins Award from the Lamar Street Church of Christ, Lambda XI Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, New Salem Freewill Baptist Church and The American Legion Post 502.
Marlon was an Avid Professional Bass Fisherman, if you couldn’t find him, he was “Gone Fishing”. Memberships included: North American Fishing Club, Bass Master, American Bass Anglers and Fishing with Jim Austin.
Doing what he loved he has received several trophies. Placing 1st in Lake Neely Henry Pro Division, Anglers Paradise Classic Tournament, 2nd Place in the Lake Lay, Sportsman Association of Black Bass Anglers (S.A.B.B.A) 9th Annual MEGA BUCKS Millennium Bass Tournament. Placing 1st and 2nd in several tournaments with “Fishing with Jim Austin”.
Marlon leaves to cherish his memories: His faithful and devoted Love of his life Mary Ann. Children: Marlon Jr, who proceeding him in death, Gregory, Eric and Duron (Latice) Breedlove all of Bainbridge, Georgia. Seven beautiful grandchildren, one who also proceeded him in death. And 5 great grandchildren. Eleven siblings, one whom, proceeded him in death. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
