Obituary

Mary Alice Peterson Venisee was born July 10, 1944, in Bainbridge Decatur County Georgia. She was the daughter of Jesse and Rossie Peterson, the granddaughter of Jesse and Annie Moore and the niece of Walter and Lamar Powell.


Mary joined the First African Baptist Church at an early age. Mary loved her church. She sang in several choirs, served on the deaconess board, served in several ministries of the church, and participated in different programs and activities of the church.


She attended Decatur County Public Schools where she participated in extracurricular activities and developed a voice for singing. By singing in the chorus at Hutto High School and the church's choir under direction of Mrs. Hattie S. Mann. She used her singing talent throughout the community. She graduated from Hutto High School in 1962.


After graduating Hutto High School, Mary attended Albany State College (University) and graduated with a B.S. degree in Nursing. While attending Albany State College (University), she was a member of the Traveling Choir as a freshman. After graduating, Mary worked in several different positions in Nursing in Decatur County, Gadsden County, Florida, and Atlanta Georgia. Mary had the opportunity to travel to several countries, while her husband was in the Army.


Mary met and married her husband: Clinton Venisee on August 15, 1970. From this union two children were born, Nikki Macharia, who preceded her in death and Banga Vasti.


She leaves to cherish her memories a loving and devoted husband: Clint, a son and daughter-in-law: Banga and Monique, 3 handsome grandsons: Nicholas, Antonio, and Clint Matthews and one great grandson: Aceon; and other family members and friends.
