Obituary

Mother Elizabeth Oliver Bell, affectionately known as “Muh”, was born in Miller County, Georgia, on November 20, 1926, to Lucille Perry Oliver, Self Oliver, and Louis Davis. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin, and friend. She was truly a beautiful and precious treasure that devoted her time to imparting into the lives of her legacy. This was most evident on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 when Mother Bell slipped her had into the Master’s hand and transitioned to her eternal home while at her earthly home with close family by her side.

Mother Bell confessed Christ at an early age and joined Lela Missionary Baptist Church, renamed Oak City Missionary Baptist Church. There she became a pillar in the congregation by serving as the first president of the Oak City Missionary Baptist Church Choir under the leadership of the late Reverend W.C. Burns. She also served on the Deaconess board and as the keeper and preparer of the church communion for many years. Mother Bell was a physically and financially faithful member until illness prevented her from attending church service. Even then, she continued to bring her tithes to the storehouse.

As a resident of Donalsonville, Georgia, Mother Bell met the love of her life, Robert Philmore Bell and had beautiful twelve children. Although she had no siblings, Mother Bell was blessed with a large and loving family, and raised her children and grandchildren with patience, love, discipline, and humility. She made all of her children and grandchildren feel special and exceptional without showing favoritism that would cause friction or tension amongst them. Mother Bell had a way to love people exactly how they needed to be loved, and never hesitated to help when needed.

Mother Bell is preceded in death by her parents: Lucille Perry Oliver, Self Oliver, and Louis Davis; mother-in-law: Gracie Jane Bell; devoted husband of thirty-six years: Robert Philmore Bell; son: Tommy Lee Bell; daughters: Alice Mae Bell and Dr. Rosie (Charlie) Lee Bell Givens; son-in-law: Michael Williams; and grandson: Michael J. Bell.

Mother Bell leaves to cherish her memories her caregiver and oldest child: Gracie Lee Bell; daughters: Margorie (James) Bell Freeman, Evelyn Bell Williams, Essie (Eddie) Bell Crawford, Emily Bell Buggs, and Runette (Marcus) Bell Hines; sons: Philmore (Mattie) Bell, Jr., Willie (Carol) Lee Bell, and Douglas (Vanessa Young) Bernard Bell; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Muh, we love you and we always will!
