Obituary
Born February 4, 1947, Nathaniel Lewis Glenn, Sr., was the eighth of eleven children born to the late Asbery Glenn and Euzera Humphrey Glenn.
Nathaniel accepted Christ at a young age and was a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
Nathaniel worked his entire life on the family farm in the Cyrene community in Brinson, Ga. Although a labor of love, the work was hard and unending and on October 15, 2023, the Lord saw that Nathaniel was tired and called him home to his rest and reward.
Nathaniel was no stranger to hard work. He learned the value of hard work at an early age from his father Asbery and his grandfather, George Humphrey. While working the farm, Nathaniel also worked a 40 hour a week job, elsewhere, for much of his life.
He attended Hutto High School in Bainbridge before becoming a short haul driver for Calloway Trucking. He spent a number of years driving between Bainbridge and Thomasville and surrounding towns in South Georgia and Northern Florida. Later, he worked for ITT United Plastics and Amoco Fabrics and Fibers. Later still, he was employed as a supervisor at Shaw Industries from which he retired in 1997.
Nathaniel was well known and respected in the community. Between his agricultural work and long-term employment in major industries in and around Bainbridge, he was able to help, over the years, many in the community - neighbors, friends, and family alike.
In his leisure time, Nathaniel liked going to the beach, watching old westerns, watching sports and indulging his sweet tooth. He loved Twinkies, Nutterbutters, Little Debbies and all sorts of sugary sweets. He kept a stash and his grandchildren and, eventually, his great- grandchildren diligently and with great delight, helped him consume them.
His other passion was The Young and the Restless. He would take his lunch when it aired and unless there was a real emergency, he couldn't talk on the phone until it went off.
Nathaniel was predeceased by his parents, his grandparents, George Humphrey and Anna Henderson Humphrey, Prince Glenn and Zennia Carter Glenn; his wife, Daisy Donalson; four brothers, Johnny Joe Glenn, Sr., Henry Allen Glenn, Garnell Glenn and Arelius Glenn; four sisters, Laura Bell, Gail Aldridge, Bronzie Harris and Minnie Ruth Glenn; and a grandson, J. Alexander Bryant.
He is survived by his four children: Sandra Smith of Donalsonville, GA; Christine Coney Bryant of Lithonia, GA; Jewanta (Jean-Claude) Desardouin of Rochester, NY, and Nathaniel L. Glenn, Jr. (Chemitra Clay) of Columbus, GA; two sister: Willie Mae Jones of Brinson, GA and Jeanette Cummings (Jesse) of Augusta, GA; a sister-in-law, Annie Jones Glenn of Brinson, GA; seven grandchildren, Tevin Bryant, Taylor Bryant, Jean-Claude Desardouin, Jr., Kearsley Smith, Veronica Glenn, Nathalia Glenn and Ajja Glenn.
Nathaniel is further survived by five great-grandchildren whom he was lovingly devoted, Unesti Moore, Kai'Lyn Smith, Carmen Smith, Mariah Bryant and Aubrey Deere; two devoted nieces: Sally Jones and Deidra Glenn and a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins.
