Obituary for Paul C. Pearson
Paul Cecil Pearson, age 70, passed away on Tuesday, Dec.7 at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, Georgia. Paul was born on Jan.2, 1951 in Bainbridge to Frank Karry Pearson and Ira Lee Hopkins. He was the fourth of five boys born to the couple and the family resided in Brinson, Georgia on Swanwall Road.
He grew up in what he called a "good family". The five boys had a hard-working father who farmed and worked at Elberta Crate Factory and a mother who took care of the home. They farmed their own land, never having to work in someone else's field, and they never went without. "There was always a cake or a pie in the kitchen for us to get whenever we wanted", said Paul. As a child he often played with his late cousin Marian Hopkins Allen who lived down the road. At other times he played football with the boys in the neighborhood.
Paul grew to become fascinated with cars, so much so that he attended trade school in Thomasville, Georgia to study auto mechanics and paint and body after graduating from Hutto High School in 1968. Afterwards, he went on to work at a number of local auto body shops, most notably Bill Nunnery Paint & Body Shop where he learned how to run a business and hone his skills as a paint and body professional. While not on the job he worked for himself on the side painting cars in his homemade paint booth in his mom's backyard and later at his garage at his home. His dream, however, was to own his own shop. And with help from his mom he was able to secure a lease to a shop on what was then Planter Street. And in 1993 Pearson Paint and Body Shop was born. He went on to establish it as a highly profitable business in spite of little to no advertising, instead relying on word of mouth and high quality workmanship. Anyone who truly knew Paul knew he loved cars (the Porsche 911 above all), classic rock music, the outdoors and himself. He was content to be alone and preferred the quiet when not blasting his beloved Jimi Hendrix or Pink Floyd. He had a strong personality, insisting things be done his way. But at his core he was simply a quiet, lonely kid who loved cars.
He leaves behind: son: Willie Burke (Sabrina) who tirelessly and dutifully cared for him in the last months of his life. And he leaves behind a daughter: Ralna Pearson, who tried to take good care of him. His survivors also include his grandchildren: Dennis Williams, Deorick Williams, Breunshay Burke and Taniyah Burke; his great grands: Kali Williams, Princeton Williams, Paris Burke and Armani Jones; and his baby brother: Harold Wayne Pearson among a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law.
