Reverend Edmond Howard, Jr was born November 23, 1940 in Brinson, Decatur County Georgia to the late Mr. Edmond Howard, Sr., and the late Mrs. Marie B. McIntosh. He earned his Angelic Wings and was summoned home on Monday, August 3, 2020. He had five siblings.
Family, friends, relatives and most community members around Cyrene and Brinson called him “Junior”. Edmond was known as Uncle Junior, and later, by many as “Reverend Junior”. He was reared in a loving, Christian home. At an early age, he confessed Christ and joined the Swanwall Missionary Baptist Church, Brinson, Georgia
Edmond attended Decatur County Public Schools, graduating from Hutto High School in 1961. He served proudly and honorably in the United States Army for two years. He did a tour in Vietnam as an artilleryman and heavy duty truck driver. His honors and military recognition include Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal Bronze Star, and Expert Badge with Rifle Bar.
Edmond furthered his education by attending Thomasville Vocational Technical School, where he received a Certificate of Completion as a Certified Automotive Technician. He was an excellent auto mechanic, with a specialty in transmission repairs and worked many years at Kirksey Ford Dealership. He was blessed to have owned his own business, Howard’s Auto Repair.
Edmond served faithfully as a member of the Second St. James Missionary Baptist Church, Bainbridge, Georgia as a Deacon, Assistant Superintendent of the Sunday School, Senior Sunday School Teacher, and President of the Senior Choir. In addition to his spiritual calling, Deacon Edmond Howard, Jr was called into the preaching ministry on February 6, 1977 and was ordained as a Minister and Assistant Pastor on July 10, 1977 of Second St. James Missionary Baptist Church under the Pastorate of the late Reverend Perry Simmons, Sr.
Reverend Howard attended The Theological Seminary Extension Center in Albany, Georgia for two years. He also studied at The Seminary External Education Division in Tallahassee, Florida for eight years, earning a Diploma in Biblical Studies, December 10, 1989. Over the years, in Ministry, he has earned a multitude of Certificates and Recognition for spiritual works. He served faithfully in the Ministry for 36 years before his health began to fail, serving as Senior Pastor at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church, Baker County, Georgia, Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Bainbridge, Georgia, and Mt. Moriah #2 Missionary Baptist Church in Attapulgus, Georgia.
Edmond found and married the love of his love, Miss Daisy Lee Conyers. They were married for 56 years, and was blessed with two lovely daughters, Melba Denise and Alice Marie. They were also fervently blessed with one granddaughter, Alexis JR-Maria, who was the light in Junior’s eyes.
