Obituary for Rev. Joe L. Sweet Jr.
Today we celebrate the homegoing of Reverend Joe Louis Sweet, Jr. He was born March 11, 1937 in Bainbridge, Georgia to the late Mr. Joe L. Sweet, Sr. and Mrs. Lucy B. Jeffery Sweet.
Reverend Sweet was a faithful member of First African Baptist Church, 515 Webster Street, Bainbridge, Georgia for over 50 years.
He served proudly in the United States Army, and was a highly decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. After receiving an honorable discharge, he graduated from Savannah State College with Bachelor of Science as well as earning a Master’s of Education degree from Florida A&M University. Reverend Sweet was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
Reverend Sweet was a retired educator of the Decatur County School System. He served as Pastor of Jordan Grove M.B. Church and Mount Tabor M.B. Church, Bainbridge, Georgia. He was also a member of the Bainbridge City Council for 30 years.
To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife: Patricia Sweet; his three children: Leonardo (Michelle), Stacy and Little Joe (Sherrie); his five grandchildren: Christopher, Amber, Jordan, Kennedy, and Colby; and his best friend and brother: Dr. John Allen Sweet; as well as a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
