Reverend Therman E. Sanders, the beloved son of the late Robert Sanders and the late Serena Lee Sanders, was born on November 6, 1939. On a peaceful Sunday in August of 2005, surrounded by love, he transitioned from this life into the glorious presence of God at Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge, Georgia.
Therman accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized, becoming a devoted member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. He served faithfully there until leaving Bainbridge to pursue higher education at Fort Valley State University, where he earned a degree in Agricultural Science in 1963. His dedication to learning continued, and in May 1984, he earned his Doctorate in Philosophy and Religious Education from the World Institute of Religious Education in Farmington, New Mexico.
A proud 1957 graduate of Hutto High School, Therman built a remarkable career, serving 31 years with the Department of the Interior before retiring and returning home to Bainbridge. Upon his return, he answered a higher calling and became the Pastor of Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Bainbridge, Georgia and Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church in Fowlstown, Georgia.
Reverend Sanders was a man of many passions. Hе loved fishing, singing, and, above all, spending time with his family and friends. He also served faithfully as the Moderator of the First Flint River Missionary Baptist Association and as a choir member of the Third District Union, roles he cherished until his health began to decline in 2006.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Serena Sanders; his siblings, Earsler Nell, Kenneth Sanders, and Robert Sanders; and his children, Enoll and Kim Sanders.
He leaves to honor and cherish his memory his devoted wife of 25 years: Gladys Sanders; brothers: Warner Sanders (Doris) of Rochester, NY, Jimmy Sanders (Hazel) of Bainbridge, GA; Murray Sanders (Christine) of Bainbridge, GA; sister: Esterene Sanders of Bainbridge, GA; aunt: Madis Dunbar of Fort Lauderdale, FL; and a host of loving step-grandchildren: Stacey Street (Dexter) Ellerslie, Georgia; Kimberly Hardricks (deceased) Jaden Crawford Jasmine Mills, Amari Hardwick. and a host of family members and friends. Reverend Sanders will be remembered as a man of faith, wisdom, and deep love — a man who lived a life of service to God and to others. His legacy of devotion, kindness, and strength will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him.
