She was the third eldest of 10 brothers and sisters. When the family moved to the city of Atlanta, Ga; Ruby received her formal education in the Fulton County school system.

There she met the love of her life Nicodemus Stubbs of Bainbridge, Georgia. Nick and Ruby were married in December 1968. They had three children: Alvin (who died at birth), Kenneth, and Milton.
When their boys were young, the family moved to Bainbridge, Georgia to be near Nick's parents and where a host of Stubbs relatives resided. She was a proud member of First Morningstar Missionary Baptist Church in Bainbridge, Ga. Ruby sang with the choir as she had at her membership churches throughout her youth. She had a keen interest in politics, listening daily to the immediate issues being faced by our nation and the Black community. She frequently shared her opinions with her sons who themselves excelled academically; she instilled in them a sense of awareness and responsibility to family and community.
As the years progressed, she lost all of her eye-sight and was totally blind. Ruby worked for over 21 years at Georgia Industries for the Blind until her retirement in 2014. During her tenure there she made many friends and earned the respect and admiration of her coworkers and supervisors.
