Obituary for Sarah L. Casteel
Obituary
“ For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith”
2 Timothy 4:6-7
Our lovely mother, Sister Sarah Lue Casteel was born October 2, 1936, to the late Laura Perkins Peterson and John Peterson.
Sister Sarah received her education in the Decatur County School System. After departing school she was a farm worker until she was employed at Jack winters sewing factory where she worked for many years. After the closing of Jack Winters she worked odd jobs until her retirement in 2001. After retirement she spent most of her time on the creek fishing. If she was asked what is the first word that comes to mind when you say fishing, I’m sure it would be love. She loved catching fish and she loved eating fish.
Sister Sarah was united in holy matrimony to the late William “Bud” Casteel, and to this union six children were born, whom she loved unconditionally.
Sister Sarah accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age and joined Smith Grove M.B. Church in Amsterdam. She song in the choir and served as a union delegate for many years until her health failed and she was no longer physically able to perform the duties. She loved church and was truly a child of God.
Sister Sarah transitioned into eternal rest surrounded by family on Saturday, January 25, 2020. She leaves to cherish her memories: Deacon William “Tom” Casteel, Attapulgus, GA; Missionary Bernaldyne Hamilton (Bishop J.E. Hamilton), Bainbridge, GA; Bobby Casteel (Shandra), Fowlstown, GA; Angelia Elllis-Gainous (Dewayne), Quincy, FL; Danny Casteel, Attapulgus, GA; 19 Grandchildren; 3 Great-Great grand grand children; 2 Great-Great grandchildren
In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her eldest son whom she missed dearly, John “Butch” Casteel; 3 grandson; Dontae Jackson, Courtney Casteel, and Jamira Randall. She was also preceded in death by all of her 9 sibling: Jonny Mae Dupoint, Laura Mae Wills, Alice Mildred Casteel, William Peterson, Aldophus Peterson Sr., Charlie C. Peterson, Lewis Peterson, Lillie Mae McDuffiie and Alijah Pearl Peterson.
