Obituary for Shirley Ann Smiley
Life Reflections
Sister Shirley Ann Smiley born in Bainbridge, Georgia on May 23, 1956. She is the beloved daughter of Deacon and Deaconess Leonard George and Versie Lee Smiley.
Growing up in Bainbridge, Shirley received her formal education in the Decatur County School System, class of 1974-Bainbridge High School. She was an exceptional basketball player known for her “long -shot”. Hailing from a family that values higher education, Shirley completed studies at Atlanta Medical Technical College and Thomasville Technical College. With further studies at Clayton State University.
After returning home, Shirley worked as the first black cashier of the Citizen Bank and Trust Company in Bainbridge, GA for approximately 6 years. Relocating to Atlanta, GA to further her career aspirations and begin working in the Business Fields of Accounting. With her last job being Accounts Payable Coordinator, APS at SAIA.
Blessed with parents of the faith, Shirley grew up in church using her gifts of singing with her confession of faith and baptism at the Jordan Grove MB Church, Pastor E. E. Mitchell, Sr. Later the family moved its fellowship to the Magnolia MB Church, Pastor Douglas Wright and Pastor Jerome Milton. With relocating to Atlanta, Shirley never forgot her faith of service unto God, so she connected in fellowship with Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Reverend Dr. Orlando Winters, serving for fifteen plus years as the Church Accountant. Shirley then joined fellowship with the Beulah MB Church, Pastor Jerry D. Black where she continued until transitioning on November 15th.
On November 15, 2021, Shirley transcended from her earthly home to spend life everlasting with God the Father.
Cherishing their earthly time with her until they all gather together in heaven are: Son: Leonard Jamaal Smiley, (Panorama City, California;Siblings: Diane V. Smiley and Reverend Dr. Linda R., aka, Baby-Sis.(Albany, GA); Reverend Willie G.(Angelia) (Attapulgus, GA) and Reverend Clinton (Darquita) Smiley (Bainbridge, GA); Nieces: Carlota G., Kemyatta N., and Casey L. Smiley (Bainbridge, GA) and Stephanie Crawford; Nephews: Malcolm and Clinton Jr.; God Sisters: Mary Gordon, Kathy Williams and Bertha Young; Very Special friend and brother: David Mann; a host of other sorrowing family and friends.
