Life Journey, Loving Reflection and Obituary for Sister Shirley McGriff Staten I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith 2 Timothy7 Sister Shirley McGriff Staten was born on March 5, 1952 to the late Samuel J. Mitchell and Ruth Williams-Byrden. Shortly after birth she as adopted by her paternal grandparents the late Allie Lee McGriff and Louis "Buddy" McGriff. She attended and received her education in the Decatur County School System and graduated from Hutto High School class of 1970. Sister Shirley accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Smith Grove M.B. Church where she served the Lord through singing in the choir and playing the piano. Early in life she married Mr. Arnold "JR" Davis and had two children Antonio D. Davis and the late Chiquita "KiKi" L. Davis. Later in life Sister Shirley found love again and married Mr. Cephus Staten. They also had two children Kalisha M. Staten and Samuel J. Staten. For many years Sister Shirley fought sickness and illness but was released from those burdens on August 19, 2015 when the Lord called her home to rest. She leaves behind her most treasured possessions, her loving husband: Cephus Staten; Her first husband and lifelong friend: Arnold "JR" Davis; three cherished children: Antonio Davis of Bainbridge, GA; Kalisha Staten and Samuel Staten both of Tallahassee, FL; Five grandchildren: Miranda Davis, Issac Davis, Precious Davis, Jacob Davis all of Colorado and Deshaun Moultry of Quincy, FL; Five Sisters: Mary Kinlaw, Cynthia Byrden Ingram, Fredrica Jones ( Sylvester), Emma Kinlaw-Bryant and Polly Martin; a brother: Joseph Kinlaw (Linda) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
