Obituary for Terrie J. Gaines
TERRIE JENNIFER GAINES, born April 7, 1962, was the daughter of Mr. George and Mrs. Dorothy Mae "Laura" Dumas Gaines. Terrie was a native of Bainbridge, Georgia and received her education in the public school system of Decatur County, graduating Bainbridge High School in the Class of 1980. After graduation, she attended Bainbridge College (now Bainbridge State College). At an early age she accepted JESUS CHRIST as her PERSONAL SAVIOR and joined Union Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend C. D. Hammonds. Terrie sang in the Junior Choir and was one of the founding members of the Mass Choir. She also served as Church Financial Secretary and on the Program Committee for a number of years. Though in latter years, she did not attend Union's worship services, Terrie still loved her SAVIOR and did not hesitate to spread the news of HIS goodness with whomever she met and conversed with. Up until a month ago, she could be found daily at the Shell Gas Station on Dothan Road, giving encouraging words through scripture to the various patrons. The Gospel is to be spread beyond the four walls of a sanctuary, and she took this to heart! Terrie was a Substitute Teacher for the Decatur County Board of Education for many years, serving mainly at West Bainbridge Elementary School, where her cousin Myrtis D. McGriff was a teacher. She took the job of helping to educate the young seriously and was in constant control of the classroom. Later Terrie was employed by John B. Sanfilippo & Son, Inc. (later called Fisher) for 20 years. "T. J.", as she was affectionately known, departed her earthly life at John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, Georgia on early Tuesday morning, July 1, 2014 at 2:10 am after succumbing to her illness. She will be missed from walking along Miller Avenue and Martin Street and standing in front of the Shell Gas Station/Convenient Store, but Paul says in 2 Corinthians 5:8, "We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with THE LORD". Terrie was preceded in death by both of her parents, George and Dorothy Gaines; three of her brothers, Willie Gregory Dumas, Michael Gaines, and Stacey Gaines; and one nephew, Willie Gregory Dumas Jr. She leaves to cherish her memories three brothers, Allen Bernard Gaines (Peggy), Toney Vincent Gaines, and George Garret; one sister, Jackie Denise Dixon; special cousin, Russell McGriff; a sister-in-law, Beverly Dumas; loving nieces and nephew: Yumeka, Renita, Shaunta, Ervin, Allison (Titamus), Tonecia, Jhalecia "GiGi", Roderick, and Vincent; great nieces and nephews: Destiny, Teshawn, Nyla, Nicholas, Javorris, Ziashown, and Jacuez; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
