Obituary for Texas Belle Brown
Obituary
Sister Texas Bell Adkins Brown, affectionately known by family and friends as “Ma” passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Miller County Hospital surrounded by family.
She was born May 8, 1923 in Colquitt, Georgia to the late Mary Sheffield Adkins and the late Shelly Adkins. She was one of nine children to whom all preceded her in death.
She attended a one room grade school in Boykin Georgia when she completed the 6th grade.
On January 12, 1941, Texas was united in holy matrimony to the late Ezra (Bud) Brown, to this union 3 children were born, two preceded her in death: Ezra James Brown and Edith Jennette Miller and grandson James Miller.
Sister Texas joined Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Eldorendo Georgia.
She was known for always having a house full of children. She willingly and lovingly raised most of all her grandchildren. She worked at the State hospital, cleaned house, nurtured her flowers, which she continued to do until her health failed. She was a woman of wisdom and wit. She could tell you anything you wanted to know about the family tree. But she also was very candid, she said what she meant and she meat what she said. She believed that laughter was the best medicine and she got the chance to experience the best night of her life (though laughter) during her stay at the hospital, thanks to her cousin Jackie Daniels for making her laugh so hard she didn’t focus on the pain she was experiencing .
Sister Texas now leaves to cherish her love and memories daughter: Betty Beard of Colquitt, GA; 12 grandchildren: Cynthia Castell of Bainbridge, GA; James Brown of Columbus, GA; Priscilla Harrison of Louisville, KY; Christopher Brown of Japan; Thomas Brown, Earl Miller (Cheryl), Merle Miller, Steven Brown (Tameka) Ezra Brown, April Brown, Star Brown all of Colquitt, GA; 18 great grandchildren, 14 great great grandchildren; a special niece: Glenda Childs; special and loyal cousin: Willie Kinder of Dallas, TX; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.
