Brother Van DeWayne Smith of Bainbridge, Georgia departed from this life October 12, 2017. He was born on April 6, 1963 to Mary Lou Smith and the late Arthur Smith in Donalsonville, Georgia
He confessed Christ at an early age and joined Greater Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. Later Van moved his membership to Cascade United Methodist Church, Atlanta, GA.
Van was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1981. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in 1987. Following graduation he moved to Atlanta, Georgia and worked at Grady Memorial, Piedmont Hospital, and later retired from The Shepheard Clinic.
Van, affectionately known as "Wayne," leaves to cherish his memory a loving mother: Mary Lou Smith, Bainbridge Georgia; three brothers: Harold (Elaine) Smith, Victor (Tracey) Smith, and Anthony Smith of Bainbridge, Georgia; God daughter: Ariel Wynn; Although, he had no biological children, he had a tremendous love for his nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were three brothers, Melvin Smith, Willie Smith; and Robert Dismuke, and one sister, Emma Smith.
Wayne, an avid Rattler fan, enjoyed attending Homecoming at his Alma Mater, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. He was well known and loved in the community and will be greatly missed.
