Obituary for Vance A. Mims Sr.
Vance Albert Mims Sr. was born on May 20, 1962 to Ms. Dorothy Mims and devoted loving grandparents, the late Rev. Willie and Lora Mims. He was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Mims Roper and his grandparents. He received his education in the schools of Decatur County, in Bainbridge, Georgia. He received further education in surgical technical technology and as lineman where he was employed with Florida Power Electrical Company in Tarpon Springs, Florida. Vance accepted the call to the ministry in the late 1990's and became a devoted member at Mt. Hermon Missionary Baptist Church, where he served until his illness prevented his attendance. Vance departed this earthly life at Florida Hospital of North Pinellas in Tarpon Springs, Florida. He leaves to cherish his loving memory to a devoted mother, Ms. Dorothy Mims, two children: a son, Vance Albert Mims, Jr. (Glenda) of Albany, New York; a daughter, Courtney ((Brandon) Macey, Schenectady, New York; four grandchildren: Myrese, Barrett, Vance Albert III, Manuel Mims and Antonio Torres, all of Albany, New York. His siblings: three brothers, Robert (Darlene) Smith Jr., of Albany, New York, Leroy Smith of Quincy, Florida, Tremayne Smith of Bonifay, Fla., and one sister, Regina (James) Zackery of Bainbridge, Ga.; three aunts; Barbara Maye, Cassie Mims and Idella Mims, all of Bainbridge; two uncles: Henry Mims (Queen), of Bainbridge and Charles Mims of St. Petersburg, Fla. He also leaves to cherish his memory to a host of great aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
