Obituary
Mr. Willie Gene Battle, Sr., son of the late Horace Battle, Sr. and Lillan Beden Battle, was born in Decatur County, Georgia on May 19, 1949.
He was educated in the Decatur County School System. After graduating from Hutto High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to Dorothy Hudson of Decatur County, Georgia. GOD blessed his union with Dorothy with two children – Christella and Willie, Jr. Later in life, Willie married Alice Johnson of Lee County, Florida for a brief period. He maintained a friendship with both ex-wives.
Willie always had a playful way about him that put a smile on the face of anyone he met. He loved his family, sports, and fishing. In 2005, after returning from a fishing trip with his brother, Jerry, there was an automobile accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down.
He entered his eternal home on Friday, July 26, 2024. His death was preceded by the death of five brothers: Horace, Jr., John Thomas, Marvin Barnard, Dolphis and Jeremiah; five sisters: Thelma B. Cumming, Hazel B. Penick, Joy B. Curry, Mariel B. Taylor and Ida B. Breedlove. He has one living sister, Marilyn B. Bryant of Thomasville, Georgia.
He leaves to cherish a lifetime of his memories to his two children: Christella Battle-Baker (Tyrone Baker) and Willie Battle, Jr. (Nekisha Battle), nine grandchildren, four step grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren, four sisters-in-law, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
