Obituary for Annie B. Jefferson
Annie B. Hollie Jefferson (Mrs. Bea as known to most) was born in Clay County (Fort Gaines, GA) and was the eldest of five children born to the late Steve Hollie and Georgia Lee Jenkins Hollie. During childhood, the family moved to Blakely, GA where she and her siblings attented school. Her father died and her mother later married Gene Wright and two more sisters were added to their family making her the oldest of seven children. At age 15, Miss Bea married Thomas Jefferson, of Blakely, GA. The couple eventually settled in a farm house on Miller's tobacco plantation in Fowlstown, GA and joined Emanuel Missionary Baptist Church. They soon began their family which evolved into nine children, four boys and five girls. In 1970, Mr. Tom died, leaving Miss Bea the task of keeping the family together and raising the seven children that remained at home. As the tobacco industry came to a close Miss Bea moved her family from Miller's farm and found work at various factories. Their eldest son, Leroy, moved back home to help out with his younger siblings, and the oldest child, Betty, who had moved away, also helped as much as she could. Thus, began the lesson that Miss Bea taught and trained her children to do: Always stand by and help your sisters and brothers; and Don't let nothing or nobody come between your love and dedication to one another. As her health declined in 2010, Miss Bea spent several weeks of rehab at Riverchase, and then went to live with her daughter and son-in-law (Betty & Bubba) in Riviera Beach, FL. In 2012, she suffered further decline and was brought back to live at Riverchase. Having a room near her daughter, Martha's (aka Peaches) office, along with frequent visits and outings with her family helped her find contentment in her new setting. At Riverchase Miss Bea saw many people that she knew. She enjoyed calls, cards, and visits from old friends and delighted in the company of many new friends and the Riverchase Staff who were very attentive to her needs. When the family saw that she was tired and her end-of-life was drawing near, her doctor and the Riverchase staff, fulfilled the family's request by working diligently to get her home before God called her back to glory. Annie leaves to cherish her loving memory her sisters: Mattie R. Wilkins (Malcolm), Poinciana, FL; Nora Wilkins, Chicago, IL; and Phyllis Williams, Fowlstown, GA. Three brothers preceded her in deaths: Steve Hollie, Johnny Lee Hollie, and Willie James Hollie. She leaves to mourn eight children: Betty Miller (Glen), Leroy Jefferson (Ann), Steve Jefferson (Stephanie) all of West Palm Beach, FL; Thomas Jr. (Lillie) and Martha King of Bainbridge, GA; Sylvia Bivins (Rev. Adren) of Attapulgus, GA; Gwendolyn Cooper (Christopher) of Miami, FL; and Patricia Griffin (Lloyd) of Tallahassee, FL. She preceded in death by her son Malcolm Jefferson. Other love ones include 23 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 15 great great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
